Description: This 2 day Club Insured ride is one of the most enjoyable rides the club has in schedule for the season. Victoria riding is very different from Sea to Sky corridor riding and has plenty to offer for all. The ride is geared to B riders and strong C riders, though sections of the ride will challenge the less strong. Our routes follow the Ryder Hesjedal course in two halves, each about 70km distance and 800m climbing.
Rides both days start by the water in Oak Bay, a few km southeast of downtown Victoria. Rides pass through Victoria to pick up any riders who are lodging downtown, and onto the Galloping Goose Trail for about 30 minutes of vehicle-free riding en route to the actual Tour of Victoria course.
After reaching the ToV course, the Day 1 ride follows waters edge west, then into rural farmland that features numerous short climbs and rolling hills. This section is very scenic and has little traffic; a real joy. Then it's back towards the mid part of the course and into Victoria again via the Galloping Goose Trail. In town we pass the Empress hotel and the BC Legislative Assembly, then ride along waters edge for a wonderful return segment to Oak Bay.
Day 2 repeats the start in Oak Bay, through Victoria, then the Galloping Goose Trail to the ToV course. Then it's up Munn Rd, the main climb of the Tour, and into more technical wooded areas with short punchy climbs and descents. Once out of the forest we ride through many scenic rural areas, and ultimately along waters edge back to Oak Bay.
