The Whistler Cycling Club is a non-profit organization run by a Board of Directors. Additional working groups formed of directors and non-director members focus on safety advocacy and club rides. We hold our Annual General meeting in March of each year. Want to get involved? Email contact@whistlercyclingclub.ca.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

BOB BARNETT -DIRECTOR / COMMUNICATIONS

Bob first rode without training wheels at age 6 and quickly graduated to a CCM Mustang, followed by a purple Iverson 10-speed. After a decade focused on skiing he rediscovered bicycles, and novice/Cat 4 bike racing, in his early 20s. School and work then conspired to interfere with cycling for several years. In 2001 he took his first cycling holiday. Since then he’s been committed to discovering more of the world, and himself, from a bicycle. He is a founding member of the Whistler Cycling Club.

JACK CARLSON - DIRECTOR

Jack is one of those persons you are always happy to be around. His attention to detail, particularly as it pertains to your well being is unsurpassed. He has endless stories to tell on those long rides. You will be intrigued.

JOHN MORLEY - TREASURER

John has been an avid road cyclist since 2010 and is proud to be a founding member of the Whistler Cycling Club. His passion for road cycling has led him to log thousands of kilometers throughout the scenic roadways of the Sea to Sky region as well as Europe.  As a member, Director and Ride Leader, John’s goal is to continue to share his passion for road cycling with fellow members and to inspire new ones to take up this wonderful activity. When he is not on his road bike, John is an avid cross-country skier in the off season and along with his wife, volunteers for Pacific Assistance Dogs Society.

BRENDA BAKER- SECRETARY

Brenda was one of our founding members and served on the board during the early years. Always accountable and available, we are forever indebted for her service.

You will find Brenda and her husband Gary riding throughout the Sea to Sky corridor and around Victoria most summer days.

Don’t try to keep up with her on the up hills. It’s not possible.

Paloma Astiazaran - DIRECTOR

Paloma joined the club 8 years ago as a C rider on our Wednesday evening rides. As she says “I started at zero”. Today she exemplifies skill, style and technique. If you want to feel confident riding in a pace line behind someone who is consistent, steady and reliable, Paloma is the one. Zero to hero in our books.

ALAN RICHES - PRESIDENT

Alan joined the Whistler Cycling Club as a founding member. Having never ridden a road bike more than a couple times, he was encouraged by a couple friends to give it a try. He immediately gravitated to the camaraderie of the sport and found group paceline riding turned his crank, so to speak. With the support, training and practice within the club, he became one of our ride leaders. This year he has taken on the roll as President and looks forward to giving back to the club in that capacity.

STEWART BLASER - DIRECTOR

Back in the day, it was Stewart’s green, high handlebar, CCM Mustang with banana seat that started his cycling journey.

Stewart is also one of the clubs founding members.

Skiing brought him to Whistler in 1988, still his #1 passion, which was complimented with mountain biking in 1990. In 2011 road cycling was added to the mix and today, slightly mellowed, his focus is on being a riding partner for his lovely wife Rosie and club members and keeping things safe and fun.
